Pakistan’s drive to advance indigenous defense technology took center stage as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the Indus RAS Expo 2026 in Islamabad, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in robotics, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and next-generation defense technologies. The event underscored Pakistan’s ambition to strengthen technological self-reliance and foster innovation across both civilian and military sectors.

Held at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre on 22–23 July 2026, the government-led exhibition brought together defense organizations, universities, research institutions, technology companies, startups, and policymakers under a single platform dedicated to Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS). The expo aims to accelerate innovation, encourage strategic partnerships, and position Pakistan as an emerging regional hub for intelligent autonomous technologies.

During their visit, the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal toured exhibition halls featuring indigenous developments in defense robotics, autonomous aerial and ground systems, AI-powered decision-support tools, maritime autonomous technologies, industrial automation, and drone platforms. Officials and exhibitors demonstrated locally developed prototypes designed to enhance national security, disaster response, industrial productivity, and public-sector applications.

The exhibition reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy of investing in advanced technologies to reduce reliance on imported systems while strengthening domestic research, manufacturing, and innovation. Organizers stated that the initiative is intended to connect government institutions, industry, academia, and startups, creating an ecosystem capable of translating research into operational technologies.

Among the major attractions were live demonstrations of robotics and autonomous systems, AI-enabled technologies, the RAS Innovation Challenge, and the RoboWars Championship, where students, engineers, and startups presented original designs and competed before panels of industry experts. The event also featured discussions on emerging technologies, defense modernization, and the future of intelligent autonomous systems.

Government officials have described robotics and autonomous systems as key drivers of industrial modernization, economic competitiveness, and national resilience. By promoting indigenous innovation and strengthening collaboration between public institutions and private industry, the Indus RAS Expo seeks to accelerate Pakistan’s technological transformation and prepare the country for the evolving demands of the digital and autonomous era.

As global militaries increasingly integrate artificial intelligence, autonomous platforms, and advanced robotics into their operations, Pakistan’s emphasis on homegrown technological capability signals a long-term commitment to building a resilient innovation ecosystem that supports both national defense and economic development.
