The squadron was formed at Mauripur on 1st August, 1960, and was equipped with B-57 aircraft. At the time of the 1965 war, it was under the command of Sqn. Ldr. Raees A. Rafi. It moved to different bases durig the war, playing an active role and successfully attacking enemy air bases in the Southern and Northern sectors. Sqn. Ldr. Raees A. Rafi, Flt. Lt. S. M. Akbar and Flt. Lt. Y. H. Alvi were awarded Sitara-i-Jurat.
