The
squadron took part in the 1965 war with India. Sqn. Ldr.
Azim Daudpota, Sqn. Ldr. A. A. Randhawa, Flt. Lt. Serajul
Haque, Flt. Lt. Ashraf Sami, Flg. Off. Jamshed Akbar, Flg.
Off. Zaigham Aizad, Flg. Off. A. Qadir, and Flg. Off. Akmal
played an important role while operating from Masroor and
Sargodha. In Sargodha, the pilots role was to give close
support to ground forces in Sialkot, Lahore and Khem Karan
areas. Flt. Lt. Azam shot down one enemy Gnat aircraft and
on 19th September, Sqn. Ldr. Azim Daudpota and Flg. Off.
Qadir undertook a very effective ground attack strike; they
destroyed the enemy medium guns which were placed near
Jallo/Attari for shelling Lahore. Sqn. Ldr. Azim Daudpota
destroyed five tanks and thirty-five vehicles, and Sqn. Ldr.
A. A. Randhawa, who flew 17 sorties, destroyed two tanks and
several vehicles in Rajhastan areas. In Masroor the role of
the squadron was air defence and close support to the ground
forces in Rajhastan area. The squadron destroyed about 30
tanks and 150 vehicles; two hundred enemy troops were killed
in the aerial attacks. Sqn. Ldr. Azim Daudpota was awarded
Sitara-i-Jurat on 27th October, 1965.
