14 Fighter/Bomber Squadron was formed at Peshawar on 1st
November, 1948. (The functional control over the squadron
was exercised by HQ No. 1 Group whereas the administrative
control was vested with HQ Fighter/Bomber which also
provided administrative services to the squadron). The
squadron was reduced to number plate basis on 15th January,
1949 and reformed on 16th December, 1949. In the early
formative stage
the squadron used various aircraft including Tempest,
Dakota, Harvard, Fury, and Auster.
The squadron ranks amongst the oldest squadrons of PAF. Its
pilots and personnel have throughout displayed excellent
professionalism, for which the service is known to friends
and foes alike. In the roll of honour stand Sqn. Ldr.
Masroor Hosain and Sarfraz Ahmed Rafiqui each of whom served
as its Squadron Commander. The squadron has the unique
distinction of having bravely defended the skies of Muslim
Bengal against aggressors and mercenaries. It moved to
Tejgaon (Dacca) in October, 1964 and participated in the
1965 and 1971 wars with India. Sqn. Ldr. Shabbir H. Syed and
Flt. Lt. Tariq H. Khan were awarded Sitara-e-Jurat.
